I found out that she passed by a friend at a party, I almost started crying.
She was an amazing author and one of the reasons I started reading as a child. Fantasy just wont be the same without here.

I just can't believe she's gone. So much amazingness stored in that mind. In my thoughts - always. Beautiful post.

Me TOO. Expressed perfectly - read them all and then they still kept coming. So sorry no more. So happy I have them all to re-read, over & over.

And separately... very tickled by the Heyer I can spot on the shelf above. Why is it that Diana Wynne Jones readers often seem to like Georgette Heyer? I don't read any other fantasy writer nor any other regency writer (unless you count Austen), so what is this strange, common denominator?

It's so easy to find her books now that I'd almost forgotten the weeks, months & years I spent trawling through second-hand bookstores, desperately tracking down copies of the DWJ books I hadn't read. The Great Re-Print was possibly the best thing EVER.

Reading through everyone's responses to the sad news has only served to remind me of how many books she wrote and how much she gave to all of us. Thanks very much for sharing your thoughts & memories.

Just heard you on the radio, first time i've heard of you actually. I completely agree - DWJ IS magic. I was probably about 8 as well when we were first introduced. I didn't like it much then, It was Charmed Life and for some reason I just didn't like it. Then I found Archer's Goon, the humour in it is a different blend and it worked so much better for me at that age.

So I join with you in farewelling Diana, and to celebrate a life well spent.
